Coric: Waste management centres promote circular economy

ZAGREB, Oct 1 (Hina) - Environment Protection and Energy Minister Tomislav Coric on Monday met with local government authorities in Koprivnica for talks on the implementation of the Piskornica Regional Waste Management Centre, as one of projects that can promote circular economy.
Responding to reporters, Coric recalled that Croatia undertook to sort 50% of waste in the household by 2020, and he also announced that tenders would be advertised over the next few months for the procurement of receptacles throughout Croatia.
"The goal is ambitious, however, from the perspective of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Energy, 2018 is a year for infrastructure. Concretely, that means that in a little more than a year we have approved funding and are in various phases of building more than 80 recycling yards. That will cover more than two million citizens," he said.
Coric added that by the end of the year, tenders for the procurement of receptacles could be expected throughout the country and that in the next two months tenders for sorting plants would be advertised.
"At the moment a feasibility study is being prepared for the waste management centre in Piskornica and it should be completed by the end of the year," Coric said. He added that waste management centres were the final phase of building an infrastructure for efficient waste management in Croatia and that it promotes the concept of a circular economy and has no alternative.
